Why Sure?

Our raison d’être

The idea of Sure was born from our need to design a product that we ourselves wanted to use. Having grown up with internet, we have soon learnt that virtually anything was accessible on our fingertips. It opened up a whole world of opportunities for us. But at the same, it made us feel overwhelmed with choices and options.

Most importantly, we realised that we were not alone in this. For the generation shaped by technology and access, decision making has become a legitimate pain. With so much to choose from, every choice feels like a sacrifice. By constantly comparing our options to the options of others like us on social media, we feel less satisfied with our decision, wondering ‘what if’ and fearing what have we missed out on. Thus, it comes as no surprise that we are part of the most anxious generation ever.

The greater vision of Sure started with the idea of improving everyday human experience by making people feel better about their day-to-day decisions.

We truly believe that artificial intelligence has the power to do that. For us, the future of AI is about using data in context to better understand our users and point them to the right direction in the overcrowded scene of decision making.

We see the value of giving AI the autonomy to make choices for us when it comes to low-maintenance decisions or decisions where AI is simply more efficient, like when scheduling a meeting. However, the autonomy to make decisions is also what makes us human. And food is definitely one of those decisions. There is a need to make sure that deciding about your next meal is still a joy, not a chore. Food is a highly personal choice that represents who we are and ties us with a community.

In the digitalised world we live in today, eating out is one of the few experiences that we cannot replicate online. It is the real-life social context & bonding experience of a dining table that we crave online.

The pain we were building upon came from experience with our previous startup DiscoverCity. We found out that people spend a lot of time doing research about food and creating bucket lists in the back of their minds. But when it comes to making a decision in the moment, they hardly ever end up going to the place on their list. Why? Simply because the information from the bucket list is not connected with the real-time context.

This actually represents a big issue for businesses too. There is a great pool of already qualified customers who need to be activated. There is a need to move from a potential customer thinking “This is a cool place I would like to visit someday’’ to actually swiping their card inside the restaurant.

When we started to think about the potential platforms for our solution, one thing that has always been clear to us is that we want to be where our users are. We truly believe that we don’t need more independent apps in our lives. Millennials and Gen Z conduct their digital life through 4 apps on average. And on most of them, they’re messaging.

The social aspect of a chatbot has also been a very important decisive factor for us. When it comes to choosing a place to eat out, majority of the people ask their friends or influencers who they can relate to.

By being on a platform where our users naturally chat with their friends, chatbot has the potential to blur the lines between tech algorithms and word of mouth recommendations.

Ultimately, by understanding users’ needs in the unique context of each decision, we can better connect their expectations with the right business. It’s a win-win for both. Customers will be more satisfied with the final outcome as it has matched their expected utility more closely. And it will enable businesses to target and connect with the right 20% of customers that make 80% of their profit.

Sure is a chatbot that uses data in context to better understand user’s needs and navigate them to the right businesses in the overcrowded food scene. Sure answers the ‘Where shall we eat?’ question once and for all.
