Activision Blizzard Lawsuit
Last week came with abrupt and disturbing news. A lawsuit filed against Activision/ Blizzard Entertainment details the sexual harassment, misconduct, and abuse of their employees. The case outlines accounts of discrimination against female employees for unequal pay, constant sexual harassment, and retaliation.
I advise a strong trigger warning before reading the lawsuit. It contains graphic and disturbing details of what the women at Activision have been subjected to.
Recently Diablo co-creator Chris Metzen and ex-chief Mike Morhaime, have spoken out and provided their deepest apologies for being a part of creating the frat-boy culture at Blizzard. Their apologies are only the beginning of what Activision/ Blizzard needs to do. As of today, Activision has not commented on the lawsuit on any of its social platforms.
Facebook becoming a ’metaverse company’
CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg is aiming for Facebook to become a ‘metaverse company’. They are “strive(ing) to build a maximalist, interconnected set of experiences straight out of sci-fi “ — The Verge
The metaverse continues to be an active buzzword and it’s no wonder Zuckerberg is looking to make his mark in the future of the internet. The idea that Facebook will expand from beyond a social media platform is plausible. Currently, however, people question Zuckerberg’s intent. While it is a calculated move to expand Facebook into joining the beginning of the internet’s hottest trend; Zuckerberg is currently facing a backlash with the US government trying to break his company up. It will be interesting to see how large corporations will try to utilize the metaverse for their own benefit.
