Universe Raises $4M Series A to Empower Everyone to Build the Internet

I’m very excited to announce that we’ve raised a $4mm Series A led by Javelin Venture Partners. This is a giant step for us, giving us the fuel to empower everyone to build the internet.

Noah Doyle, Managing Director at Javelin, will be joining our board. We have deep alignment on the opportunity ahead and the company we want to build. I’m thrilled to have him in our corner.

Along with Javelin, we have strong participation from our existing investors General Catalyst, Y Combinator, Box Group, AdvanceIt Capital, Eniac Ventures, Entree Capital, and Fuel Capital. They’re joined by some awesome new faces, including Paul Buchheit, Yuri Sagalov, Louis Beryl, John Graham, Jeff Rosen, Sinai Ventures, Ade Olonoh, and the Product Co-Op.

We launched our app just 15 months ago. Since then, we’ve accomplished a ton. Our product has grown from a landing-page creator to a full-throated website builder. The resulting creativity has been staggering, with people all over the world, from every background and passion, creating incredible sites. Believe it or not, we’ve done all of this with a team of 3.

This capital will allow us to grow—to recruit the best talent in the world, scale our business, and make our product even better.

Our task is simple: to empower more people to make better sites easier.

We believe that the internet should be created by everyone. Accessing the internet, at long last, is now ubiquitous. But building it is still the provenance of a small few. We are changing that, and we invite you to join us. We’re looking for exceptional talent to join the team across engineering, design, community, and growth.
