When we decide to create our own Pagan path, we do not have to start completely from scratch. We can if we want to, but there are probably some things that we’ve already seen that we like. There are likely a few others that we like some part of. We can use what already exists as inspiration and adapt as needed, but I do want to strongly suggest that you avoid cultural appropriation. Let’s talk about each of these.

Inspiration

Inspiration for your spiritual path can come from many places. Anything that triggers your imagination and resonates with your connection to nature, deity, or humanity can be used as a starting point. Myths and folk tales are fairly common for this but don’t forget that our 21st-century myths and folk tales come from movies or comic books or television as well as books. Many people are introduced to the Shinto religion through “Spirited Away” (https://digitalcommons.unomaha.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1673&context=jrf#:~:text=Among%20the%20anime%20films%20by,to%20bathe%20and%20be%20refreshed). “Neon Genesis Evangelion” mixes Qabbalah, angels, and mechs. The Church of Jediism, which describes itself as more of a philosophy, has over half-a-million members worldwide.

Remember that there are many modern fables and see what inspires you.
