Have you ever joined a blockchain conversation and tried to keep up, but were stuck from the words and concepts being thrown around?

Hone your blockchain speak-smarts by understanding the basics of blockchain through Understanding Blockchain!

Ledgers… oh, the ledgers…

If you’re just getting started, check out Blockchain for N00bs. It’ll give you the core information on what blockchain is all about. We talk about what a distributed ledger is, how blockchain works (on a rudimentary level) and its possibilities.

Today’s post will be the first of “The Ledgers” series.

The reason I’m starting here is because a whopping 100% of survey responders indicated interest in learning about the use cases for blockchain. In order to understand the use cases though, we need to know the blockchain protocols (systems) that are being used.

Did you know that there are different types of blockchains, built with different characteristics?

These differences define how it can be used and who can use it. By knowing the different blockchain types, we can begin to see the use cases and the accompanying cryptocurrencies of the use cases.

I hope that was a helpful introduction to the public/private ledger and permissions terms. The next post will touch upon why this matters because there are multiple combinations that define how the “ledger” aka blockchain will be used.
