The stake of next legislative elections in Cameroon

The next legislative elections in Cameroon are expected to be held in the second half of year 2018. These elections are governed by the direct universal suffrage, with a mixed ballot list (majority and proportional) for a five (5) years term.

In other words, the Electoral College is constituted by all Cameroonians duly registered on the electoral rolls. Citizens elect the deputies (Members of Parliament) from their electoral district or department of residence, on the basis of a competition of lists presented by the political parties.

If a party obtains an absolute majority of the casted votes (50% + 1 of the votes), its list wins all the seats to be filled. In the opposite case (relative majority), the leading list gets a half of the seats and the other half is allocated to the proportion of the votes won by the remaining lists.

According to the electoral code, a Cameroonian who is rightfully registered on an electoral list and who is twenty-three (23) years of age on the date of the poll, can be a candidate in the legislative elections. Members of Parliament have legislative power. In this capacity, they examine and vote on the laws of the Republic, and control governmental action. The deputies of the nation are therefore the guardians of the framework of expression of our LIVING-BETTER-TOGETHER.

For 2018, in the absence of will to compete for a position as a Member of Parliament, use your right to vote to designate responsible representatives who will ensure that your department receives its fair share of public programs.

Our country’s future depends on your choice. Register on the electoral rolls and convince your entourage of the necessity to do the same.

Let’s build our Cameroon together!
