UPDATE: As of October 1, we’re no longer running our “Energy for the frontline” offer. We’ve since launched a new giving campaign with 3 charity partners: Bonton Farms, PEP and Feeding Texas. Read about the campaign and our process for choosing our 3 new partners.

Starting today, we’re giving $100 to any essential worker in Texas who signs up for energy with us. We’ll also donate $10 to Feeding Texas, a hunger-relief organization serving 4.5 million Texans every year.

If you’re an essential worker and want to sign up, visit frontline.bulb.com.

Bulb is a new kind of energy company that’s making energy simpler, cheaper and greener. We provide our members with 100% renewable energy from pure Texas wind and solar. On average we save our members about $528 a year on their energy. More about Bulb here.

Why are we doing this?

Bulb is a certified B Corp, which means we balance purpose and profit in how we run our business. In this challenging time, we think recognizing people who are putting their lives on the line to keep our communities running is the right thing to do. We’re talking about the people who are caring for us, feeding us, protecting us and making sure critical systems continue to function.

This offer is one way we can thank our essential workers.

Bulb will help in other ways too. A lot of people are dealing with serious financial challenges right now, so we’ll help by saving them hundreds of dollars a year on their energy bill. See how we stack up against other energy companies.

We’re also the best choice for people who need extra flexibility in their lives. We have no annual contracts or hidden fees, and we’ll pay up to $100 if your old provider charges you for leaving. We’re also freezing our summer rate from June 1 to August 31, adding an extra layer of predictability during these unpredictable times.

If you’re facing economic hardship because of coronavirus, there are additional benefits available to you. Read about how we’re helping our members here.

Who is an essential worker?

In Texas, the list of who is, or isn’t, an essential worker is decided at the county level. From our point of view, an essential worker is someone who provides an essential benefit to their community. Okay, that’s a bit vague. Here’s an official document on “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers” from the Department of Homeland Security that we’re using as guidance. It’s wordy, but this honeycomb diagram pretty much sums it up:

How to sign up

If you’re an essential worker and want to take advantage of our offer, you must sign up on frontline.bulb.com. It’s how we’ll be able to start processing you as an essential worker. We might also ask for proof of employment after you join Bulb.

We’ll email a confirmation after you’ve signed up and will transfer your reward after you’ve paid your first bill.

Why are we donating to Feeding Texas?

Approximately 1 in 7 Texans experiences food insecurity. We believe donating to Feeding Texas will make a real and immediate impact in people’s lives, especially as food banks deal with an unprecedented demand due to the coronavirus.

For every essential worker who signs up for energy with Bulb, we’ll donate $10 to the Feeding Texas COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. If you’d like to donate directly, visit their page.

Feeding Texas is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. It currently feeds 4.5 million Texans annually across all 254 counties.
