I recently took up walking every day again and it’s been a bit painful to restart, albeit a rewarding journey.

Like any other skill, writing is like exercising a muscle. Without proper exercise it’ll wither back into its former state, because after we wean ourselves off a steady diet of exercise we’ll eventually fall back into a prior state of not exercising or of not being the person we want to be.

To develop any skill we need to cultivate a habit of discipline. To do the hard things when we need to instead of always reaching for the stuff on the bottom shelf because it’s continually within our grasps.

Without discipline, we won’t stick to a rigid diet of exercise.

And without constant exercise, our muscles will never get stronger.

So if we want to become better at anything, we need to cultivate a healthy mix of both to succeed. That’s the only way we will grow as creative writers, artists, and visionaries to come.

Thanks for reading! If you liked this, please give it a clap to help others see it too.
