The Spanish football club Real Madrid is always in the news for having the the best players in their team. The club is not afraid to spend millions of euros on footballers to get the best players on the field.
That being said, the club didn’t always make the right judgement when signing footballers with hefty paychecks.
Here are some of the worst strikers who Real Madrid signed.
1. Emerson — 2006–07
This Brazilian footballer may have had success elsewhere, but he struggled heavily when playing for Real Madrid.
2. Royston Drenthe — 2007–2012
One of the younger strikers that played for Real Madrid, Drenthe’s bad attitude got him a clap back from his own team’s fans. Especially after he failed to make any mark on the field.
3. Thomas Gravesen — 2005–06
This Danish player is more known for his feud with teammate Robinho than his talent on the field.
4. Walter Samuel — 2004–05
Nicknamed “the Wall”, Samuel is one of the very successful players who fell face forward during his time in Real Madrid. ‘Why’, still baffles fans and critics alike.
5. Javier Saviola — 2007–09
Saviola moved from Barcelona to Real Madrid, but didn’t make any impact while playing for either team.
6. Antonio Cassano — 2006–08
Cassano was once one of the most hailed younger footballers, but his excessive partying and lack of discipline in life cost him his football career.
Considered as one of the best clubs in the world, Real Madrid has to choose the players most selectively. That’s the least fans can expect from a club that spends so much on its players.
