This dog… is not a dog. “Do You Want to Play with Me?” by Meg Konovska

This is piece No 6 of the “33” watercolour series by Meg Konovska (*khu-khum*, that would be… ME!).

The series consists of 33 paintings, 33 x 33 cm each. They are all created in the following manner:
• Randomly make 33 dots on the blank sheet, with eyes closed
Connect the dots in a complete contour, without intersecting lines
• The resulting silhouette is developed in a sketch which is completed in colour.

To top it off, each painting is accompanied by an explanation for the unsuspecting observer to consider.

I now give you

Do You Want to Play with Me (available)

Painting 33x33 cm watercolour on 50% cotton acid free paper, 250 gsm. Overall size with framing: 44x44 cm. Mounted behind glass with wooden frame.

This dog is not a dog. It is a Dream Guide*. Dream Guides are ether creatures** of amorphous nature and they can take whatever shape they wish, or more precisely — whatever appearance their observer imagines.

The meeting with such a Dream Guide normally follows the next pattern:
The Guide whispers to the Consciousness:
“Hello! I am here for you to guide you through the world of your imagination!”
The Consciousness replies:
“Where are you? I can see you not!”
“I am here! Right in front of you! Just narrow your eyes and you shall see me.”

At this moment the Consciousness emits a signal at a certain frequency which the ether creature captures and instantly materialises in front of the Consciousness’s eyes in accordance to its notion. Or, so to speak, the Guide takes the shape of the vessel in which it is put.

This ether creature has taken the shape of a small playful puppy. It welcomes in a joyful mood its new visitor through the realms of Dreams, ready to play. It waves its tail in invitation to the observer to follow it through the white abstract space where anything is possible. This space has been intentionally left empty for the Imagination to paint and fill whatever it pleases with.

_____________

*Dream guide — a term partially inspired by the dream walker from “The Sword of Truth” series by Terry Goodkind
**Ether creature — the term is inspired by “Ether Breather“ — a short story by Theodore Sturgeon
