“Price is what you pay. Value is what you get” — Warren Buffett

I start with this quote from the great Oracle of Omaha because it outlines a principle of life — buy low, sell high. Value comes and goes, and the smart ones know when to capitalize. There is no truer application of this axiom than fantasy football. Great players never take their draft seal their fates. Each season is an elaborate puzzle of trades and pickups that can ultimately result in rise or ruin for the intrepid fantasy football owner.

This season I’m going to put out my thoughts regarding who I’m ready to trade away, and who I’m trying to get on my team. Perhaps this will ruin my year by exposing exactly why I’m trying to do things like trade my FIRE Latavius Murray for my league-mate’s Allen Robinson (I actually made that trade in week 2 in one of my leagues), but that’s a risk that I’m willing to take. I’ll highlight at least one Get and one Give each week, with brief asides to comment on previous calls I’ve made.

Give: Matt Forte

416. That’s the number of carries that Matt Forte was trending towards through the first 2 weeks of the season. Simply put, it’s not very likely that such a pace is realistically sustainable through the rest of the season. He’ll get usage, but if there’s someone in your league who’s willing to part with Lamar Miller or DeAndre Hopkins, I’d jump on that quick time. In addition, Bilal Powell is going to be the main beneficiary of Forte’s touches going down, and is definitely a Get.

Get: DeAndre Hopkins

Personally, I don’t quite buy the Will Fuller hype. He’s very talented, and it hurts me to speak ill of a fellow Notre Dame alum, but DeAndre Hopkins is going to be the focal point of this passing offense in the long run, especially as defenses start deciding to give a little more credence to the other receivers in the Texans backfield. The schedule gets easier (though I admit that the Titans didn’t strike me as a scary matchup), so there are certainly brighter days ahead for Hopkins. If the person who currently has him is starting to sweat, I’d consider making an offer, even if it means offering up your shares in Fuller. The same goes, by the way, for Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard, though I think it’s less likely that OBJ’s owner is jumping at the bit to get rid of him.

Thanks for reading! My name is Jack Moore. I love fantasy football, writing, and writing about fantasy football! Tweet me @jacknotjohn if you have an exciting trade that you want to brag about, maybe I’ll feature it in a future article!
