McConnell Implores Warren to “Smile a Little” in Senate Debates
Assuring his colleague that “you’re so much prettier when you smile,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell beseeched Elizabeth Warren to “smile a little more” on the Senate floor.
“Look, you can be really pretty when you try,” he whispered to Warren while both were holding trays in line at the Senate cafeteria. “You’ve got that gorgeous blonde hair, and when you wear makeup, you look a lot less tired.”
“I know you haven’t had a lot of luck with men in Washington,” he continued. “But maybe if you tried doing your hair and wearing something that shows off your assets — yes, I’ll take a slice of shepherd’s pie, and a low-fat Jello, if you have any,” he said, addressing the cafeteria employee who asked what she could get him.
Warren, who has been married for almost 4 decades, cut McConnell off before he could continue. “Mitch, I’m not trying to be a jerk here,” she said, “but are you on your period?”
