A new study released today by the Playbill Foundation finds a staggering 90 percent of Hamilton lottery winners are broke one year after winning tickets to the popular Broadway musical.

“This results actually aren’t that surprising,” says Playbill Chief Data Scientist and aspiring set designer Dennis Miller, “because your typical Hamilton lottery entrant isn’t usually in the best financial state to begin with.”

Miller says a high percentage of winners are “artistic types, working out of a co-working space in Brooklyn,” who need to “consider the fact that most people have passions, but that most of us have also figured out that passion alone doesn’t provide a steady source of income.”

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is reportedly working on a rap song that encourages Hamilton lottery winners to consider graduate school, or taking their dads up on those offers to work at his real-estate firm.
