that’s not even grace. that’s the lord’s prayer. is she saying the lord’s prayer instead of blessing this meal?

two more years before the last one is out of the house and into college. and i can move. we can stop pretending this is working.

thy kingdom come

i can do what i planned on doing. i never wanted to be the man that just provides for his family. who is providing for me? who is here for me after i provide?

thy will be done

what do i do when i want a hug or a back rub? man, up. didn’t i already man up? i’m paying the mortgage with a job that’s breaking my back. what else do i have to do to earn what she so easily gets?

on earth as it is in heaven

and all she has to do is cook and clean. hell, i can make lunches and do the laundry for eighteen years. i need a break. i could take care of the house and call it work. the kids are in high school. how much work is there to do? what does she do all day?

give us this day our daily bread

it can’t just be cleaning. we don’t have that much house. the kids are barely here. i’m barely here.

and forgive us our trespasses

i smelled cologne on her. it was strong. it wasn’t mine.

as we forgive those who trespass against us

i should have cared. i should have cared that she was with another man.

and lead us not into temptation

that she bought a man into my house and my bed. his tie was under her pillow sunday afternoon after i came home from golf. it was hard to take a nap that day. by sunday night, it was gone. i slept in my office.

but deliver us from evil

i should care that she has the audacity to not work and bring a man into my house. my kids could have seen him. my neighbors may already have.

for thine is the kingdom

she could have at least said a regular proper grace before this dinner that she made everyone come to. what if i tell them, i paid a caterer for this fried turkey?

and the power and the glory

she has a new bracelet. i wonder if he bought that for her. i should care who he is.

the youngest leaves the house in two years.
