Support the Troops? Vote Liberal.

Because they care a lot more about veterans than conservatives.

Mitch McConnell, a very good example of someone you should not vote for if you care about the troops (despite this photo).

Those who worship the military and its members with the most fervor are typically conservative leaning, yet it’s largely conservative policy that ignores or outright shoots down legislation that meets the needs of the servicepersons who come home.

Don’t believe me? That’s understandable given the vicious reaction by conservative politicians in regards to anything even remotely unpatriotic, as the idea of it being disrespectful to both those serving and veterans seems to be the biggest motivator for the negative responses.

Luckily, Daily Kos compiled a list of instances where Senate Republicans blocked bipartisan bills pushed by Democrats that directly benefited veterans in 2013. On Veteran’s Day 2015, US Uncut did the same thing with a few new additions. So not only are conservative politicians doing nothing to help veterans, they’re actively blocking efforts from the other side of the aisle.

Conservative voters also chose Trump, a man who offered this about John McCain: “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

POWs are inarguably heroes in my opinion, and that’s coming from a person who is referred to as an SJW libtard and does not like John McCain. The president-elect apparently doesn’t share that opinion.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, signed an executive order in August of 2012 that improved access to mental health services for veterans, service members, and military families.

Given the fact that 20 veterans commit suicide every day, making up around a fifth of the number of suicide victims in the US, the executive order wasn’t even close to enough, but at least it was something. Veterans make up 6.8% of the US population. They also make up 18% of those who take their own lives.

However, it was 22 veterans a day in 2010. The executive order was signed in 2012. In 2016, it’s 20 veterans a day. Like I said, it wasn’t nearly enough, but at least it was something.

According to the Military Times, 7 out of 10 veterans who took their own lives “were not regular users of VA services,” likely because suicidal thoughts require immediate medical attention. The conditions at most VA hospitals are appalling. From absurdly long wait times to straight up negligence, the consequences are extremely fatal. At a minimum, it’s 20-deaths-a-day fatal.

There’s a clear separation between the amount the GOP and their supporters hail veterans and servicepersons as heroes. Anyone who disrespects the American flag and the National Anthem is directly disrespecting the troops, yet it’s not disrespectful to work feverishly to block any legislation that would benefit veterans. The hypocrisy is truly unbelievable. Literally. It’s nearly impossible to believe.

The government helps troops in the war against other human beings with weaponry, and then refuses to help veterans with the war against their own minds, an internal war sparked by the one the government dropped them into.

If you think that’s wrong, you should be voting for liberal candidates.

If you don’t care about the well-being of veterans, vote for conservative candidates.
