In somewhat of an anticlimactic finish, the final Oscar presented at the 2017 Academy Awards was not, as is customary, Best Picture, but instead the award for Best Sound Effects.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal and his date, Nicole Kidman, were due to present the Academy Award for Best Sound Effects third in the evening’s program, but the pair were allegedly “stuck [in traffic] on the 101" and then “couldn’t find parking” in any of the garages close to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

Gyllenhaal and Kidman arrived with the envelope containing the Best Sound Effects winner just as Best Picture was being announced.

Producers were debating whether or not to even announce the little-notcied award for Best Sound Effects, but decided to put it up at the end after Martin Scorsese whispered into his headset, “Lion deserves something!”
