Up to Neverland! “The Butterfly of Time” (detail) by Meg Konovska

This is piece No 5 of the “33” watercolour series by Meg Konovska (*khu-khum*, that would be… ME!).

The series consists of 33 paintings, 33 x 33 cm each. They are all created in the following manner:
• Randomly make 33 dots on the blank sheet, with eyes closed
Connect the dots in a complete contour, without intersecting lines
• The resulting silhouette is developed in a sketch which is completed in colour.

To top it off, each painting is accompanied by an explanation for the unsuspecting observer to consider.

I now give you

The Butterfly of Time (available)

Painting 33x33 cm watercolour on 50% cotton acid free paper, 250 gsm. Overall size with framing: 44x44 cm. Mounted behind glass with wooden frame.

This is a special kind of a gigantic asymmetrical butterfly mutant which roams around the marshy territories around the Fairy Forest of Neverland (the land of Peter Pan).

Due to the asymmetrical shape of the wings which is different in each representative, the trajectory of this butterfly is completely unpredictable — even for itself. That is why it is very hard to be captured and hence the name — Butterfly of Time. Its size is considerably larger than a lily blossom, and the reckless fairies often use it for a riding animal in hot summer nights.

It is important to notice the high level risk of the activity for the inexperienced riders, for the butterfly has the ability to fly through time and one has to be very careful not to be tossed from its back and thrown into some other age where they do not believe in fairies. This can lead to a fatal end for the unfortunate rider, as the lack of belief in fairies is lethal to them.
