An ambush for the evil Hazelnut! “The Hazelnut Hunter” (detail) by Meg Konovska.

This is piece No 11 of the “33” watercolour series by Meg Konovska (*khu-khum*, that would be… ME!).

The series consists of 33 paintings, 33 x 33 cm each. They are all created in the following manner:
• Randomly make 33 dots on the blank sheet, with eyes closed
Connect the dots in a complete contour, without intersecting lines
• The resulting silhouette is developed in a sketch which is completed in colour.

To top it off, each painting is accompanied by an explanation for the unsuspecting observer to consider.

I now give you

The Hazelnut Hunter (sold out)

Painting 33x33 cm watercolour on 50% cotton acid free paper, 250 gsm. Overall size with framing: 44x44 cm. Mounted behind glass with wooden frame.

The Dwarf hunter seen here is armed with a hunting double barrelled gun which can kill a whole elephant. In this picture he is stalking in the bushes with the idea of surprising and defeating from ambush the evil Hazelnut Krakatuk* who has seized the power in the Acorn forest, plotting to
root out all oak trees and to plant hazels in their place.

However, the rest of the forest residents are unaware of his intentions yet, for they had succumbed to the spiteful comments by the ill-intentioned Columbian gun dealer from whom the Dwarf bought his double-barrelled gun.

As a result Granny Bear, Godfather Wolf and Godmother Vixen (see “Forest Tales) are certain that the Dwarf is lurking to shoot their fellow the Elephant (whom they had never seen in person but had read his description in Peter Beron’s “Fish Book”) and they are determined to warn him at his very arrival in the forest about the fierce Dwarf hunter.
