When you hear about household brands such as Amazon, Target, or Walmart, the first thing that pops into your mind is probably everything you have bought from them. Whether it’s electronics, clothing, kitchenware, or room decorations; you name it,

they’ve got it.

These companies have given you an entryway into the largest and most accessible catalog of commodities in the history of humanity. However, because this change was developed over many years, you might not have realized how streamlined the shopping experience has become.

Let me walk you through your purchasing journey.

  1. First, you start off by deciding what you want to buy. From clothes hangers to reusable water bottles to testing scantrons, there will always be items on your shopping list.
  2. No matter the reason, once your mind is set on buying an item, you start your search for the best deal. You rapidly skim through multiple stores and click away on your computer in order to look for the best prices, the most convenient shipping methods, the widest customization capabilities among other factors to determine where you will make the final purchase.
  3. After you have found a product that satisfies your criteria, it is just a matter of inputting your personal information and the item will be at your doorstep in a matter of days.

Easy, right?

Unfortunately, making this journey simple for you has not been a simple task for the companies themselves.

  • How do companies know what to price all of their products in order to stay relevant while also making a profit within their market?
  • How do they know what combination of colors and styles to stock items in that maximizes both personalization capabilities and inventory space?
  • How do they understand if their advertising campaigns are working and what their current brand reputation is?

All of these problems are just a few of many that e-commerce enterprises face on a regular basis relating to product, brand awareness, shipping, marketing, and SEO. Without constantly keeping them in check, they will fail to remain as a competitive and reliable point of purchase for consumers.

In order to conduct market research and analysis to get the answers they need, these companies have to collect data at a global scale on a regular basis.

You might be wondering,

How are they able to collect this much data in such a short amount of time?

Currently, enterprises utilize a variety of methods in order to “crawl and scrape” internet data from both the market and their competitors to get the information required. Since there is no automated way of collecting data, they equip fleet upon fleet of

  • VPNs,
  • Proxies,
  • and P2P networks,
  • all operated by massive DevOps teams,

in order to manually dig out the data.

However, even with the amount of resources and manpower supplied, this method is not always successful because of

  • High operational costs,
  • Software not suited for data collection at-scale,
  • and a high rate of denied crawling queries, blocked by anti-bot measures.

Why can’t there just be a packaged service that would automatize the data collection process and help companies gather it efficiently, effectively, at scale, and with minimal costs?

Well thankfully, one already exists and it’s called Bungee.

Bungee is the brainchild of Rajat Nigam and Charles Ding, two former Amazon employees who were tired of the clunky and complicated data collection methods currently in place.

In the fall of 2017, they began work on an API that would fulfill crawl requests on a much larger scale than any current service while also maintaining a near perfect crawling success rate. And just like that,

Bungee was born.

Throughout the next year, the duo expanded their team, hiring data analysts in India, designers from Georgia, and coders from the Silicon Valley. Subsequently, they were accepted into Skydeck, UC Berkeley’s premier startup incubator, in the summer of 2018. They decided to quit their jobs and pursue this dream full time in order to make their vision of creating a powerful and all-encompassing data collection and turnkey servicing software come true.

Throughout their incubation period, Bungee has taken over the market by storm and have had their services used by some of the top e-commerce companies in the world.

With

  • a successful crawl rate of 99.9%,
  • the ability to crawl Geo-specific data,
  • latency 40% faster than current solutions,
  • and zero setup cost,

Bungee has taken giant strides towards making their dream a reality.

Bungee launches your data collection!

Bungee helps these enterprises reduce DevOps and operations costs, dispose of overhead management, and organize all of their data in an inclusive package for any and all needs.

On top of all that, Bungee provides Turnkey services which allow companies to utilize even less manpower when sorting through the data. Through these services, Bungee packages the specific data that is requested and delivers it in a clean spreadsheet; this removes the need to sort through all of the raw code and find the relevant information.

Lastly, Bungee’s immersive dashboard gives the user deep performance and system metrics about current crawls, success and failure rates, location-based crawls, and an overall scope on how the API is functioning. This makes it easy to track progress and visualize the functions of the software.

It will be exciting to see what Bungee has in store for the future. So just,

Sit back and enjoy Bungee’s skyrocketing performance at the forefront of the big data industry.

I hope you learned something more about data-collection and Bungee’s role in shaping the future of the industry and I wish to see you again in future installments to come!

Until then, the next time you go out shopping, perhaps you will be a little more conscious of data’s significance and the impact it leaves within your life.
