Lost lost
Hurt hurt
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Head hurts
Limbs ache
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Shame flowing
Guilt heavy
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Lost soul
Lost heart
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Pressure fight
Anxiety drowning
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Two options
One choice
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Spirit speaks
Head denies
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Spirit speaks
Soul cries
Darkness surrounds
All around.
Spirit whispers
Of love and light
Darkness lifting
Anxiety down.
Spirit talks
Of love and light
Darkness lifting
Shame down.
Spirit shouts
Of love and light
Light creeping
All around.
Spirit shouts
Soul hears
Light creeping
All around.
Spirit keeps shouting
Soul is listening
Light streaming
All around.
Spirit strength
Soul drinks
Light streaming
All around.
Spirit tests her wings
Soul is nervous
Light streaming
All around.
Spirit spreads her wings
Tells soul she loves her
Light beaming
All around.
Spirit takes flight
Soul hangs on for dear life
Light striations
All around.
Spirit and soul
Together as one
I love you
Finally
All of you
I have always loved you
I have always protected you
I will never let go.
Spirit and soul
Are now one
Light streaming
Not from all around
From within
And outward
Touching the heavens
And the stars
With her free verse spirit.
Chronic illness pushed me to my limits at times, and it was hard to find love for myself. At the point where I realised I had only two options — give up or keep going — my spirit spoke to me in a simple statement that my soul and heart knew to be true.
I simply told myself, “I love you”.
So, I chose to keep going, and part of honouring myself is to be creative.
And one of my favourite creative outlets is free-verse poetry!
I want you to know that you do have love for yourself, inside — your spirit and soul know this to be true.
Listen to them and you will move forward in life with a joy that you could have never anticipated!
