A letter to my younger self

Dear Younger Self,

Because you are a teenager, I’m betting these words won’t mean much to you. You probably won’t even bother to read them. After all, you are sixteen; you have it all figured out. Trust me, I get it.

But I’m writing to you anyway because maybe, just maybe, you’ll find this letter on one of your darkest days and it will shine a little light. Remember, I know us better than anyone.

Funny, I’ve written so many letters to you, but they all seem to end up being way too long, too saccharine, or too all over the place. There’s so much to say. So, after many failed attempts, I’ve decided to write you a cheat sheet instead of a letter — some rules to live by, if you will. We’re Capricorns; we like to get to the point. But I’m not going to sugar-coat things, younger self. I will tell it like it is because I’ve learned some stuff from where I am now (decades older and hopefully wiser). And some of it is black and white. So, without further adieu, here we go:

  1. You always have been and always will be, a sensitive soul. It’s not a bad thing; it means you feel things with your entire heart. So, when someone pulls that old “You’re too sensitive” bullshit, kick them to the curb. They’re never going to “get” you.
