On the future of business analysis in the age of AI
For the last couple of years, the business analysis community has been consumed by the topic of AI.
Is AI going to replace business analysts?
How to use AI tools for business analysis?
How to be a better analyst with AI?
What are the best ChatGPT prompts for business analysis?
How to get AI tools to create decent diagrams?
The overall direction of this obsession has been, “What’s in it for me?”
And the fear has been, with AI tools getting better, whether our BA skills are still relevant.
If you can prompt a chatbot to spit out a decent list of user stories, draft requirements and write an executive summary, what are we doing then? Editing AI’s outputs? Becoming prompt engineers?
And as a natural consequence of this direction, is learning BA techniques no longer necessary? Instead, should BAs focus on becoming ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot operators? Chatbot masters?
