I have reviewed hundreds of business analyst resumes. Two minutes is usually enough to discard a resume. It can take even less time if I see a glaring mistake.

If your resume never passes the “first glance” test, your job search will be long and fruitless.

In this article, I will share with you how to avoid the discard pile.

You still need to have the right skills, and you still need to practice for a job interview, but none of that will matter if your resume is unprofessional or raises doubts as to its authenticity.

Here are some common mistakes. Most of these apply to any job, and not just to business analysis profession.

1. Your resume does not demonstrate an understanding of the job

If you want to be hired as a business analyst, the main purpose of your resume is to demonstrate that you understand what the job is about and have experience at the expected level.
