What is business analysis? It is a practice for enabling enterprise change through analysis of business needs and identifying the features of required solutions — business requirements.

Many professionals are engaged in business analysis activities — and not all of them will have a BA title. Many product owners, project managers, data analysts, business intelligence designers, user experience specialists, and process improvement consultants are engaged in business analysis every day.

They discuss problems, investigate their root causes, and compare potential solution options and their business benefit.

They work with architects and developers on comparing solution designs and looking for the most value in new features.

They test their ideas on customer focus groups, shadow operations experts, and capture their findings in user stories, matrices, and diagrams.

They collect stakeholder feedback, evaluate technologies, promote new solutions and help the users learn and adopt new products and features.
