An effective change starts with knowing WHY — your strategy and business objectives.

The strategy will shape your target operating model. What does your business need to be like in five or ten years to survive and thrive? You must visualize the target state of your company, and then cast back to your current state to determine how to get there. This will define your roadmap.

Business architecture helps organizations create strategic plans and define required changes in a disciplined way. The strategy is shaped into views that can be communicated to the employees. Without clear communication of the strategy, how can business requirements accurately reflect your desired target state?

This is where the connection between business architecture and business analysis becomes critical. As the architects define the future blueprint of the organization, their high-level view needs to be translated into more detailed and concrete views — business requirements. The strategic roadmap of an enterprise will include multiple changes, projects, and initiatives. They must build one upon another to allow the business to evolve incrementally, from where it is to where it needs to be.
