What is the most common problem that every business analyst faces on every project?

Stakeholders don’t have time.

It is a ubiquitous challenge — project stakeholders say they are too busy for so many meetings and conversations.

How are you supposed to do your job then?

How will you gather information and elicit requirements?

First, let’s acknowledge: that this problem will never go away. Your stakeholders will never have enough time. Especially the best ones.

The only way is to adapt and mitigate — and this is the point of this article. It is not about time management and color-coding calendars — it is about making the best use of the time available.

Your job as a business analyst is to turn every hour with stakeholders into quality time.

This is where you bring value — by supplying your time and expertise to use stakeholders’ time in the most efficient way.

After all, the organization needs them to do other important work like selling, keeping customers happy, and keeping the manufacturing lines running.
