Can we build AI without losing control of it? — Sam Harris

A TED Talk from Sam Harris on the perils and passion of pursuing artificial intelligence.

I came across this great TED Talk by Sam Harris from June of this year that speaks to the dichotomy of our passion quest toward artificial super intelligence while we knowingly ignore the perils that await us at our desired destination. It is a frightening yet intriguing conversation about where we are going with AI.

There are many nuggets to contemplate in his talk, but the three assumptions Harris puts forth seem particularly non-assumptive:

• Intelligence is the product of information processing
• We will continue to improve our intelligent machines
• We are not near the summit of possible intelligence
