Introducing CoCoTech

Teams that are using lean and agile methodologies to work more efficiently and deliver increased value to their customers are always coining new, awesome sounding names. I think it is time for the communication and collaboration space to join the fray.

You’ve probably heard of MarTech as it has been around the longest and probably has the biggest footprint. But, if you look you can find companies in FinTech, HRTech, LegalTech, etc.

So, what is this “X”Tech stuff about? At a summary level, it is a way to describe a shift that has occurred in what it takes to do business and operate in our modern world. Everything is digital. Digital is technology. You really can’t make progress in today’s world without working with technology.

Technology powers communication and collaboration in the modern world.

The communication and collaboration space is no different. There are no new products, services, or methods to be found that aren’t digital. Technology powers communication and collaboration in the modern world. It isn’t a trend either. Our use of and reliance on technology is going to increase more and more as we build more effective digital workplaces.

At a more tactical level, these monikers represent a shift in the way work gets done.

DevOps

DevOps is described as a movement that sets out to change the culture of how software development and other technology operational groups interact to streamline the process of implementing or improving applications. Much like agile shifted the work of design and development, DevOps strives to bring together even more players earlier in the process as well as speed up the entire life cycle while maintaining quality and stability. I’m greatly summarizing the concepts and theory around DevOps and agile…you’ll have to look elsewhere to read up on those topics.

CoCoTech

CoCoTech then strives to bring all the right players into the development lifecycle of building, improving, and deploying internal communication and collaboration tools. Honestly, this is what agile methods should have been doing all along — bringing together all the necessary stakeholders to collaborate in realtime. The thing about agile though, is that it is only a framework to be molded and melded as the users see fit. In other words, your mileage may vary.

CoCoTech includes representation from across business, development, infrastructure, engineering, and project delivery groups. From ideation to requirements, from building out environments to development and testing, all the way through deployment, CoCoTech teams work together with common objectives and priorities.

CoCoTech represents business and technology groups working as a unified team to enable and enhance the way workers communicate and collaborate.

This mindset — and a corresponding shift in how we actually organize, govern, and manage our work — is required to keep up with the fast-paced, ever changing needs of today’s workforce.

So, what do you think? Can we make CoCoTech a thing?
