Africa Rising: Business in Action
On 6th February 2016, this past Saturday, our CEO, Luke Kyohere, took part in the “Africa Rising” technology panel at Georgetown University.
As part of the larger Africa Business Symposium, the stellar 60 minute technology panel focused on the tech boom and its impact on Africa.
It reviewed the growth of the telecoms industry and the ubiquity of mobile phones that has provided a platform for a tech explosion across Africa. In line with the conference theme, which was “Africa Rising: Business in Action”, the panelists highlighted their individual stories working in the Africa technology space. The panel featured the following speakers:
- Luke Kyohere, CEO, Beyonic
- Ihab Osman, CEO, Blunai
- Obafemi Banigbe, Managing Partner, Silver Rock Technology
- Yomi Adedeji, CEO, Softcom
- Michael Okomo, Advisor, Pan Equity Partners
The panelists were a very diverse group with experience across multiple industries, which provided a wealth of information via a round table discussion format, followed by questions from the audience. The conversations ranged from individual topics of interest within the telecom industry, mobile applications and the contribution of technology to the economic boom in Africa. Panelists also shared opinions on challenges that Africa still had to overcome, including key infrastructure, energy and education challenges.
Overall, the inaugural event had 6 panels, 25+ speakers, and 300+ attendees.
