Launching my Journey as a Product Designer at Hevo!

After going through rigorous Product Design Challenges and multiple interviews, I decided to be a Product Designer at Hevo Data. Although I did design for 3 months in my previous company, Hevo Data is the first company working as a designer after transitioning from development 👩‍💻. I had a few queries before joining a B2B company as I was coming from a B2C background. So before joining I requested to set up a 1:1 call with Akhil Krishnan.

After that call, I was even more convinced about my decision as he patiently addressed all my queries and also explained about the new challenges and problems that I would deal with while being a product designer at Hevo.

Now I have almost completed 3 months here. So I just wanted to pen down my experiences of my first design job so far.

When I joined Hevo Data (currently remote), I was assigned a buddy who would be helping me in setting up the system or with any queries. The onboarding process was super smooth. ✌️
We also had a whole-day induction program organized for new joiners which was super fun as it included games, puzzles, some ice-breaking sessions to know each other well. Sharing a sneak peek of the induction meeting 🙈.

Some day-to-day tools which we use here as a Designer.

For daily communication, we use Slack and Google meet to be in touch with each other. 🙌

Let me walk you through what a typical day looks like.

Usually, my mornings start with a cup of tea and a nice breakfast. After that, we have our daily standup where we check in on progress and talk about what we’re planning to do next.

This is what my morning standup looks like.👇

Morning standup routine

After standup, we dive into focused work. Usually, I work on the feature task and iterate on it. I also attend requirement gathering meetings with product managers and get feedback from multiple stakeholders. Before sharing the design with the stakeholders, we have design reviews and feedback within the team itself and get feedback from the team first 🙌.

We also have game nights within the team from time to time to maintain a work-life balance and also have fun while working. 🥳🥳

Recently I got my swag kit as well, which is one of the perks of being a new joiner 🙈. And to be honest I’m a sucker for good merch!!

Akhil Krishnan is the best manager I could have as he is super supportive and also ensures that we are enjoying our work as well. He exactly understands what you want to do and gives you just the right amount of liberty and guidance. It is a perfectly balanced mentorship.

I feel extremely blessed to be a part of this exciting team. If you wish to know more about our work you can check out Hevo Design, Hevo Design’s Medium Page, or follow us on Dribbble.

Also if we pass your vibe check 🙌, currently we are hiring for our design team. Come and be part of this exciting and growing team.

You can also connect with me on Twitter or LinkedIn for any feedback, discussions, or collaborations, I’d be more than happy to have a chat with you!!
