In Nepal, A Multipurpose Complex dedicated to Social Entrepreneurs
In Nepal, in the heart of Kathmandu, stands a new type of complex built over 4 ropanis, or more than 2000 square meters. Looking like a classic hotel with rooms, reception areas and a lovely 200-seats restaurant, it hosts a business clientele, but very special.
A complex entirely dedicated to social entrepreneurship
This Complex is the new innovation of the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA Nepal), founded in 1998 in Kathmandu and working for sustainable development, education of individuals with respect of local cultural specificities.
In this project, the aim was to train local people to make them business executives but to make them entrepreneurs in order to help them develop local initiatives and build a strong economy in Nepal.
The project was carried by entrepreneurs and academics in order to offer the best training ever. The idea of a hotel infrastructure allows to reach the most remote populations by allowing them to stay in the Capital to receive high-level training in a stimulating environment at a low cost.
Seminar rooms can accommodate from 20 to up to 100 people. The accommodation is made of dormitories that can accommodate up to 40 people, as well as single and double rooms with a capacity of 24 beds. For the longest formations, there is an apartment that can accommodate 5 guests.
For more accessibility, in a city where traffic is a huge problem, the Hotel built its own parking and has been positioned near Kathmandu periphery for more direct access.
ICA Training centre offers courses tailored by experts for the needs of Nepal
The centre offers specialized training courses by experts and academics. They teach the trainees the basics of entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship.
The ultimate goal is to teach people how to start a business, while taking into account local specificities. International and local experts, such as Sudip Koirala, who undergraduated from Kathmandu University School of Management and Graduate of a MBA in Global Management and Leadership from Tribhuvan University School of Management and Handong Global University South Korea.
Training can be in entrepreneurship, but also in the management of humanitarian crisis.
More training can be made to cover all the needs of the territories.
ICA Training centre created an Incubator — The Catalyst
Within the structure there is an Incubator — The Catalyst, which allows the development of business projects, offering them a working space, network, mentors, financing and even business creation ideas. This structure is a place for Mature Projects, but also to offers a continuity with the training center.
The ICA Training Centre also organize weekly cultural events such as PhD Forum, Innovation Forum, Facilitators Forum and Skill Training Forum.
A Realistic Business Model
Under this project, the economic model was not based on a free option. To offer a high level of training and to retain the most motivated candidates, a small participation is requested to cover the running costs of the structure and not entirely depend of donations and subventions.
The complex also hosts a restaurant open to the public, offering quality cuisine in optimal hygienic conditions. The restaurant design looks like a European Brasserie, a design that allows it to seduce a business and tourist clientele.
The restaurant can serve up to 200 people, which allows to develop an activity that can finance the Training center.
Reception areas are also rented out to third parties to organize seminars, which is also a source of additional revenues.
ICA Training Center is a new generation of project that will be able to have a positive impact in Nepal.
