Why Omitting the Truth is a Bad Business Practice

Why I quit a bad boss and don’t even feel bad about it

I was recently but in a very mad situation…

My boss asked me to lie.

Actually, she didn’t ask. She told me to lie.

So… What happened?

Before all my freelance and ghostwriting, I worked a regular 9–5 job. It was a little soul-sucking, but I enjoyed the people, the owner, and the work was equal parts creative and challenging.

As far as 9–5 jobs go, I loved it.

So, what happened?

The owner, the boss that hired me, decided to retire and sell. Makes sense, right? Yes, it absolutely does.

And while the two owners who purchased her company seems like nice people, they, by their own admission, bought the company and proceeded to ‘fly by the seat of their pants’ for over three years.

What about the lying?

Throughout they ownership, they told me to not share and/or omit specific information, which in and of itself is not a bad thing. It’s not the open, honest, and transparent mantra they reiterate day after day, but it’s their business.
