Connected Politicians Expected to Take Over the Government By 2018.
As we move into a new election cycle, more and more politicians will turn to digital advertising, especially Connected TV advertising, to spread their message and hopefully win your vote.
A recent New York Times article revealed low single-digit increases, flat-lines, and declines in every major advertising medium EXCEPT digital — which includes Connected TV and its various platforms like Roku, Android, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung Smart TV, as well as other and Smart TV systems, currently accounting for nearly 300 million viewers worldwide and growing.
The fastest growing segment of the in-home entertainment industry, Connected TV is quickly outpacing traditional broadcast and cable TV and is expected to surpass both by 2018. Industry insiders compare the startling growth of Connected TV to that of the Internet in the 90's. Early adopters have already seen tremendous results and more and more big money advertisers — like Proctor & Gamble, for instance — are jumping on the badwagon; cutting their traditional ad spending to focus more on digital — including Connected TV — where they can get more for their money. While no one is officially tracking ad spending on Connected TV yet, those working in the industry have noticed an obvious increase in larger advertisers.
That said, where the money goes, so go the politicians, and if the ad money’s moving to digital and Connected Television, sure as shit, they’ll be right behind it. It’s no secret politicians love to spend money on advertising — especially cutting edge advertising if it means gaining an advantage. In the coming elections (and beyond), that advantage will come in the form of digital- and Connected TV advertising reaching more viewers, across more media, faster than ever before.
And as the media landscape changes and Connected TV becomes the new battleground for winning your hearts and souls, and your money and votes, one thing will NOT change — politics as usual, and, as always, the “connected” politicians will continue to win.
