Meet a Member: Steve Stine

Steve joined our BoP community at the start of this year. Two years ago, he founded Inside Asia Advisors alongside its podcast Inside Asia Podcast. He is also the CEO of The Conference Board. Steve’s business was built on a purpose-driven culture, committing to the idea of leadership as a service and not a privilege. His exposure to various geographies and sectors over the years has enabled him to gather insights, senior talent, and core operating systems that are exclusively provided by Inside Asia Advisors.

This is how purpose shaped Steve’s personal life and career path:

“After nearly 15 years in the Executive Search business and conversations with thousands of senior executives through the year, it became apparent to me that many senior leaders feel “successful” and well-compensated, but few are what I would call “inspired” or “purpose-driven.” I’ve come to see a direct correlation between the level of “purpose” an executive feels in his or her work and the degree of “meaning” ascribed to their respective lives. In other words, try as one might to separate personal and professional existence, the two will blend and influence one another — whether you want them to or not. This epiphany led me to set up my own firm — Inside Asia Advisors — and create, in partnership with The Conference Board and the Center for Creative Leadership, a body for Asian-based CEOs called the Asia Corporate Leadership Council. Established in August 2020, the Council is focused entirely on educating and enabling these executives in their efforts to build purpose-driven organizations.”

Here’s his advice about how to find purposeful and meaningful work:

“‘Success’ is not what you think. It is what you’ve been told. Take the time and effort to re-vision “success” in a way that meets the comprehensive needs of your life and purpose.”
