10 Business Operations Initiatives
I have mentioned various roles you can take on in Business Operations such as Sales Ops, Product Ops, Marketing Ops, etc. As I have been reflecting on the last 10 years of my career and realized that there are 10 key initiatives or bodies of work I have spearheaded — at least one or more times — that truly highlights core aspects of Business Operations.
1. Strategy & Planning: The annual strategy process for a company to define priorities, goals, OKRs, metrics & KPIs, etc.
2. Operational Cadence and Reporting: A weekly and monthly pulse on how a business, product, function and/or team is doing; commonly known as Monthly Business Reviews
3. GTM: An end-to-end strategy-to-delivery framework to launch a product/service or penetrate a new market
4. Lead to Customer Life Cycle: Again, an end-to-end process for marketing sales from generating leads to converting to an engaged customer
5. Customer Onboarding & Support: A process for onboarding and supporting a customer
6. Recruiting Process: Again, an end-to-end process for hiring to track applications, sourcing, interviews, offers, close, etc.
7. Resource Management: Tracking and transparency of effective headcount allocation
8. Change Management: There is a disciple in of itself and a huge miss by the organization when they are making major changes to how things operate
9. Event Planning: Complete event management from logistics to content for things like SKO, planning offsites, tradeshows, etc.
10. Function Management: Communications, User Experience, Employee Engagement, Training & Development
