The Rise of the Kidfluencer
There’s a new sheriff in town, and he’s underage
Although the majority of us waited until we were at least working age to begin our business ventures, once again, times are changing. These days, you no longer need a degree or even a high school diploma to be successful in business. Instead, you simply need a personality, some skill, and, of course, being cute as a button never hurts.
The Rise of the Kidfluencer
Of course, I’m not speaking about adults (but yes, we’re all cute, too); I’m talking about the kidfluencer! For those who are unfamiliar, a kidfluencer is a child, and often one of a celebrity or public figure, whose likeness is used as a means of building an influencer platform and generating income.
They typically have massive social media followings and are often sponsored by major brands, enabling them to earn serious cash. Some of the more extreme examples are Blue Ivy (Beyonce and Jay-Z’s eldest daughter) and North West (the eldest daughter of Kim and Kanye).
While the very concept is controversial for many reasons, the kidfluencer realm has become an $8 billion social media advertising industry, and top kidflueners can make up to $26 million per year! Therefore, it’s pretty safe to say the sector is here to stay.
