Details of incident
An employee, Harry Potter, who was working at our sheet metal processing plant in Hsinchu was injured. His eye injury was caused by a piece of metal/shrapnel. After it happened, one of his colleagues immediately called for an ambulance that arrived approximately ten minutes after the accident and took him to MacKay Memorial Hospital. According to the doctor’s report, his injuries include a cut eyelid, a bleeding eye and an indelible scar on his forehead; his recovery time is a a month.
Assessment
Mr. Potter was cutting aluminum without his safety goggles on and so is responsible for his injury.
Action taken
All plant supervisors have been requested to frequently remind employees involved in the sheet metal cutting process to wear their goggles at all times and signs have been put up in the factory to the same effect.
