PR vs. Social Media

Last week I wrote about how it’s probably time to outsource your social media. (Click here to read it…..DO IT!)

So, now you’re tasked with the responsibility of actually finding an individual or company that can effectively handle your social media. That’s definitely easier said than done.

I’ve noticed a lot of small, boutique PR agencies that are offering social media management services, and 90% they have NO IDEA what they are doing. It’s not their fault, though. They may be great at playing the PR game, but that game is FUNDAMENTALLY different than the social media game.

PR is B2B. You’re trying to get the New York Times to write a story about Zoe’s Kitchen. (Shout out to Zoe’s….freaking love your chicken.)

Social media is B2C. It’s customer service. It’s delighting customers. It’s community.

While some PR agencies may be able to flip the script and adapt to servicing clients in a B2C capacity, most can’t. You’re better off finding an individual or an agency that truly understands social and all of its intricacies.

Thanks so much for reading! If you liked it, hit that heart button below. Would mean a lot to me. :)
