The cost of living is going up everywhere, but some cities are ridiculously expensive.

The Crazy Tourist uses the data from Numbeo.com to show how the living costs in some of the most expensive cities around the world.

The data is based on a dollar for dollar comparison of what it would cost a person to live in each city. This infographic is only to show you the idea of how costs vary in different parts of the world.

Surprisingly, the most expensive city in the world is not New York City or San Francisco. It is Hamilton, Bermuda.

Where is the money going?

Most of the most expensive cities are in Europe and the US, but a few surprises are in the list. For example, the residents in Singapore pay a lot for going out.

Here we see the breakdown of the cost of a similar lifestyle in each city, and there is clearly a lot of variances.

Most of the people spend over 50% of the money on renting. It is shocking to see how much the cost of renting in New York and San Francisco. In other cities, the cost of transportation is a bigger chunk of overall expenses.

The variance in costs between the everyday goods is different from place to place. Although rent in San Francisco is ridiculously high, the price for the internet seems reasonable while you have to pay $140 in Bermuda. The cost of a beer is about the same around the world. Expected in Hamilton, you have to pay around $6 for a beer everywhere.

The data from Numbeo is based on crowdsourced submissions. It is not a scientific study yet gives a good overall idea of the cost of living in the different cities around the world.

It is an interesting look at how living costs around the world.
