Why Minecraft Movie Succeeded And Snow White Failed
It involves executives leaving creatives alone
Movie theaters and Warner Brothers executives are cheering for the box office results. A Minecraft Movie\ opened in theaters and brought in more than $163 million, more than the Barbie movie did in its debut weekend back in the summer of 2023. By far the biggest debut of the year, so far.
Something that Disney executives are lamenting. Their latest live-action remake, Snow White, is one of the biggest box office flops ever. It opened to around $43 million, far below expectations. Even worse, unlike Disney’s other recently released live-action movie, Mufasa, their princess flick lost steam at the box office quickly.
What’s the difference between the two movies?
Some might argue that the studios matter. Disney after all has been on a losing streak when it comes to most of their properties the last few years. Even the new Captain America failed to do significant business this year. A common theme for Marvel movies during the latest phase of the franchise.
