Will The Simpsons End With Season 40?
The venerable animated sitcom is set to reach a milestone no other primetime scripted show has
Fox and 20th Century announced that The Simpsons, American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy were all being renewed for an additional FOUR seasons. Multiple news stories branched out from the statement. The one that garnered a lot of attention was that American Dad was returning to the broadcast network after 11 years on TBS.
One part that didn’t get quite as much attention but is set to make television history is that The Simpsons will become the first primetime scripted show to have 40 seasons under its belt. This deserves to be talked about more.
Some millennials don’t know a time when The Simpsons wasn’t on TV.
So, will The Simpsons ever end? The answer isn’t as unlikely as some might think it is. Talk of the show coming to a conclusion has been going on since the early 2000s. Even as recently as 2023, producers were thinking that the end was in sight.
Former executive producer Al Jean told People Magazine: “We’re going to definitely do 757 [episodes], I wouldn’t say that’s the end but I don’t know how much further we can go.”
