My wife and I like to joke that Apple has a conspiracy to slowly kill our phones with updates until we’re forced to buy new ones.

Many years after buying our matching iPhone XRs, they’re still trucking along … but the little slowdowns and glitches are starting to pile up.

Sure Apple is just making sure its technology is on the cutting edge, but it’s fun to play the victim sometimes, isn’t it?

In an ideal world, I would have updated my device on Black Friday, but alas — I’m a cheapskate who likes to use products until they disintegrate.

Unfortunately, delaying that purchase now may end up costing me (and everyone who needs a new phone or TV) a lot more than we think.

Why exactly is that?

Self-imposed pain

After years of face-melting post-COVID inflation, I know the last thing you need to hear is that prices are about to spike again.

Yet here we are on the heels of a U.S. presidential election that could deliver exactly that.

And the sad thing is, the economic pain will have been self-inflicted.
