1 surprising Disney move a sign of coming economic crash?

--

I have to say I’ve never understood what leads someone to become what my 11-year-old referred to the other day as “a Disney adult”.

Although I’m not exactly sure where he learned that term, I’m certainly familiar with the people he’s talking about.

  • They post Disney princess memes on their Facebook walls and dress as Snow White for Halloween
  • They put Mickey ear decals on their cars that say stuff like “Disney Family Chariot” or whatever
  • They talk endlessly about the number of times they’ve been to Orlando, or how many pictures they have with Goofy on a cruise ship

I’m not anti-Disney by any means. They develop some great movies.

But I’m not totally sure what leads someone to make that leap from moviegoer or theme park visitor to building their identity around those experiences (please feel free to explain your journey in the comments if this is you).

Maybe it’s a person’s attempt to hold onto their last shred of childlike wonder after years of being beaten down by “adulting”.

Whatever the reason, I find these superfans tend to skew a bit older.

I’m 43, and the Disney adults in my life seem to be in their 50s, mostly.

So in one sense, I kind of get why Disney made one surprising move recently that has fans all a-twitter.
