Walmart boss warns: Trump tariffs will spike prices starting this date
Canada’s biggest grocer has come up with a pretty cheeky and effective new response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff attack.
It’s safe to say nobody wants to be left holding the bag when consumer prices spike in the coming months thanks to the Mango Man’s nonsensical trade war against America’s closest friends and allies.
Tariffs are a government tax on importers, and businesses with razor-thin profit margins have no choice but to pass that cost on to their customers.
So grocery giant Loblaw has come up with a novel way of making it extremely obvious who is to blame.
Sensing the seething rage my fellow Canucks felt when Trump started blathering earlier this year about making our sovereign country the “51st State” and referring to our then-prime minister as a “governor”, businesses of all kinds started pasting red maple leaf symbols on price tags here to indicate which ones were made in Canada.
The move was made in support of a furious “buy Canadian” movement (which also extended to a damaging U.S. travel boycott) that continues to this day.
Now, Loblaw is taking it a step further.
In addition to the maple leaf icons, Loblaws is also including a big “T” on price tags to show exactly which ones are being impacted by the tariffs.
