As we head into the weekend, Business for America is sharing our first Supporter Spotlight, showcasing some of the amazing civic-oriented companies who have joined us in the movement for a safe, secure, and accessible voter experience in 2020.

Lime

Popular electric scooter company Lime is using its innovative mode of transportation to take users straight to the polls this November. The company has launched their 2020 Roll Call initiative to encourage voter registration and accessibility for all riders across the 28 U.S. states in which Lime scooters are available. The Roll Call operation, detailed on limetothepolls.com, began through the notable partnerships the company has fostered.

Lime has teamed up with When We All Vote, a nonpartisan organization, to create physical hanging QR tags and in-app messages leading riders to the Lime + When We All Vote voter registration portal. Lime are also participating in Vote Early Day to educate users on vote-by-mail options in an effort to avoid crowded polling centers and keep voters healthy. Lime is also continuing their Lime to the Polls for free voter rides on Election Day. With the health risks that surround public transportation during these times, the option of a free scooter to a polling station is more vital than ever before. Lime’s work to encourage safe and healthy voting in the 2020 election aligns with the values of Business for America, which is why Lime is also working with us to call on Congress to expand secure vote-by-mail access and expand local government voting resources for safe polling locations.

Avocado Green Mattress

Avocado Green Mattress is dedicated to creating sustainable, environmentally conscious, and high-quality homeware. Their mission is to provide comfortable sleep environments while also taking social responsibility. The company holds membership with the 1% For The Planet organization to ensure that one percent of all company revenue is donated to environmental nonprofit organizations. Due to the unprecedented circumstances caused by COVID-19, Avocado has shifted their social responsibility to not only include the wellness of the physical planet, but also those living on it. Avocado has partnered with Business for America and has pledged to do their part in ensuring a safe, healthy, and fair 2020 election.

Avocado is committed to providing 15,000 face masks to California voters. Additionally, Avocado is taking steps to encourage their employees to work at local polling stations around California. Actions such as these by Avocado highlight the growing support for the Business for America movement and vitality of ensuring a safe election.

Sweetgreen

Sweetgreen’s commitment to inspiring healthier communities has expanded and surpassed simply a dedication to serving fresh and local produce. The mission- and values-driven company has partnered with Business for America to ensure that everyone in the Sweetgreen community has the opportunity to cast their vote, and do so in a safe and healthy manner.

Sweetgreen has rolled out a plethora of initiatives to assist their employees throughout the voting process. Beginning with education, Sweetgreen has invited industry leaders and groups, such as League of Women Voters, to lead webinars and educate employees on voting issues and rights during COVID-19. Company members will also be invited to the ACLU screening of “Take A Vote,” followed by a discussion hosted by voting rights experts. Hourly Sweetgreen employees are allotted up to three hours of paid time off so employees do not have to decide between having their voice heard and earning a paycheck. Additionally, Sweetgreen has teamed up with When We All Vote to create a custom registration portal to promote easy and fast registration for all on-site employees. The company has also joined numerous voting coalitions to promote vote-friendly workplace policies, Congressional support of secure mail-in ballots and safe in-person polling places, and more.

Sweetgreen’s actions clearly reflect the values of the Business for America and Operation Vote Safe. Head of Social Impact and Inclusion at Sweetgreen, Kirby Bumpus, speaks to why this partnership is so vital to the mission of the Sweetgreen community:

“We believe firmly that one of the most important things that anyone can do to impact change is to vote. We believe it is our responsibility, as a business, to engage on this issue which is why we are speaking up in support of expanded mail-in voting options and safer in-person polling places so that every single citizen has the equal opportunity to shape the future of our country.”

It is through the efforts of companies such as Sweetgreen that we at Business for America believe real change can happen at all levels of government.

The election is just weeks away, but there are still many things your business can do to help deliver a safe, secure, accessible 2020 election. To get involved, please contact us!
