Gardening is an art, and each garden, even if the same plants are used as the others, is unique and unrepeatable. Each of us brings a special touch that makes this space a personal environment.

So that your garden can look beautiful from the beginning, we share 10 gardening tips that can be useful for both beginners and experts.

1. Patience and perseverance: You cannot have a wonderful garden in just one day. Be patient and work little by little. Remember that plants are living beings and require special care.

2. Choose native plants: Native plants are those that grow wild in your region. They are resistant to the climatic conditions of the place, and therefore, they are easy to care for. If they don’t convince you, don’t worry. You can buy plants that grow in places with a similar climate to the area where you live.

3. Check the humidity of the soil before watering: Watering is a task that seems easy, but it is actually very delicate. When watering, try not to get the flowers and leaves wet, and at the same time, try to get the soil well soaked. Before doing so, check the humidity of the soil by inserting a wooden stick and see how much soil remains attached to it. If it comes out clean, you can water.

4. Use natural and environmentally friendly products to eliminate pests: Plants, no matter how well we care for them, can be affected by various pests. I recommend using natural products to repel pests, and also to eliminate them. These, unlike chemicals, don’t harm your plants or kill beneficial animals like ladybugs and bees.

5. Prune your rose bushes for more beautiful roses: Rose bushes are one of the most popular flowering shrubs in the world. To have beautiful flowers all year round, it is important to prune them regularly. To do this, remove the faded flowers and prune a little harder in late winter, trimming the stems 3 to 5 centimeters.

6. Place the plants in a suitable location: Plants need light to grow, but sometimes we don’t put them where they should be. Trees, cacti, and palms should generally be in full sun, but there are exceptions. Research with an expert where your plants should be located so they receive the right amount of light, without wilting or burning.

7. Change your potted plants: Some people believe that a plant can always live in the same pot, but this is not the case. The plants grown in these containers should be transplanted every 2 years or so, moving each time to a larger pot.

8. Fertilize for better growth: Water is important, but so is compost, that is, the “food” for your plants. Fertilize regularly from early spring to late summer. You can use compost, fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee or tea bagasse, banana peels, wood ashes, and more.

9. Plant your long-rooted trees away from buildings: Trees with invasive roots, such as ficus, should be planted at a minimum distance of 5 to 10 meters from pipes, sidewalks, pools, etc. otherwise they could end up destroying these constructions or hindering them.

10. Plant the bulbs together: If you want an even carpet of bulb plants, plant them even closer together than the package directions recommend. If you plant them in pots, make sure they have holes to drain the water.
