If you’re using AI just like everyone else, with no clear purpose, no strategic direction, and no personal principles on what to use and not use AI for, you’re at risk. Not at risk of replacement (because AI can’t replace you). But you’re at risk of eroding your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You’re at risk of losing what makes you.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can make AI an ally, not a foe. You can team up with AI in the most effective way possible to gain back your time, and not let AI use you. It starts with a little imagination; then, some practical experimentation.

In the past months, I’ve been brainstorming possible scenarios where AI can team up with me. I’ve already been exploring its use in my projects, and the possibilities are endless. One time, I thought. If I were to restart my audit career today with AI as my assistant, how would I do it?

Using a combination of ChatGPT prompts and my prior experience as a financial auditor, I did a little experiment. I reimagined how I would manage or supervise audits with AI as part of the team.
