Erosion.
Two people stand on opposite sides of an arroyo as it flows with fresh rain. They both see the arroyo get wider as the water pulls its banks downstream. One person sees their land disappear. Sees their land being taken away from them. They hang their head and walk away, vowing to stop the loss of their land.
The other person watches the land be taken away and knows the neighbors downstream will benefit from the fertile soil. As that person stands there the rain water slows to a trickle. What is left is soil both newly exposed and newly deposited.
The garden will be green next year.
