What a glacier can teach us about impermanence
I was recently honored to be asked to be interviewed for Egor Korneev’s and Alexandra Essenburg’s Blue Planet Stories Podcast.
They had come across my article about Finding Permanence in Impermanence at the LaConte Glacier, in Alaska and were intrigued to find out what a glacier had to do with impermanence.
You never really know where an interview will go and we ended up touching on the year when I was in fourth grade and I came home from school and my dad was sawing windows into the side of a school bus-yellow van in order to put in louvred windows. He also put in a stove and a fridge and bunkbeds and we were off to see the country during his sabbatical year. We sort of had one of the original “hippie camper vans.”
During that trip, my mother, a schoolteacher, had me keep a journal about our travels. It was, perhaps, one of the greatest gifts she could have given me…
