Over the past year, our brilliant and dedicated team has worked to create the first handheld, whole-body ultrasound system. This fall, we began shipping, bringing our device to medical professionals across the country. And today, we’re thrilled that this work has been recognized with Butterfly iQ selected as one of Popular Science’s 2018 Best of What’s New Award Winners.

Since 1988, the editors of Popular Science have reviewed thousands of products in search of the top 100 tech innovations of each year — breakthrough technologies that represent a significant advancement in their industries. Popular Science Editor-in-Chief, Joe Brown, puts it best, “This collection shapes our future, helps us be more efficient, keeps us healthy and safe, and lets us have some fun along the way.” We are humbled and excited to share our story as we take our first steps in revolutionizing healthcare.

Butterfly has completely overhauled traditional ultrasound technology, leveraging the same manufacturing as consumer products by placing ultrasound on a chip, and in turn, drastically lowering the cost of ultrasound to $2,000. By making ultrasound as accessible as a stethoscope through our smartphone connected device, we’ve created a window into the human body at an accessible price point.

As we move forward, we will continue to democratize healthcare in order to make what’s new today the standard for tomorrow.
